Gucci Silver Leather Belt.

Source: Bergdorf Goodman
A boring person like me would wear a black shirt and black pants with this belt. The good thing is silver can complement bright, cheerful colors so come spring time, you can really outshine, literally, the person next to you.
Gucci silver leather belt available at Bergdorf Goodman for $245.

Rubber.
They're embossed on rubber.

Dolce and Gabbana Chain Belt.

Source: Bergdorf Goodman
Being stuck in the lab everyday can get tedious sometimes. I do have down time occasionally, but I can't be browsing fashion-related blogs and websites, lest they think I'm more interested in Hermès, Valentino, and Issey Miyake than herpes viral infection.
Sometimes I just want to dress funky and odd to alleviate the tedium. Think metallic silver Dior Homme shoes, Dsquared2 jean shorts (shut up), Martin Margiela t-shirt with some unintelligible phrase on it, this Dolce & Gabbana belt, and red Goyard briefcase. OK, on second thought, scratch that. But you get the point.
Luckily, I don't have to wear the dreaded white lab coat most of the time. I hope Miuccia Prada can come up with a fashionable solution at some point in the future. I'm thinking patent leather coat from last season but with a chemically-resistant transparent technofabric. Work it girl.
Dolce & Gabbana chain belt available at Bergdorf Goodman for $550. (Yea, it's not worth the price.)

Taking Advantage Of Sales: Father's Day Gift Guide.
Unlike around Mother's Day when sales aren't as prevalent, Father's Day stress is ameliorated financially by the myriad of sales. Below is a short list of gift-worthy markdowns.
==========
Source: Saks
You might consider this a gag gift, but he might actually like these Paul Smith checkered socks...in which case you'll regret giving them to him when he wears them with khaki shorts. Available at Saks for $21 (reduced from $30).

Technically marketed as travel slippers, he can still wear these around the house. Don't let Fido wrap his mouth around these though - it's suede. The pouch can be monogrammed for a reason that escapes me. Available at Neiman Marcus for $55 (reduced from $95).

Every man needs a decent toiletry case - after hectic days of travel, you want simple tasks like shaving and brushing teeth to be as organized as possible. Leather isn't ideal because really, do you want to clean toothpaste and shaving cream off it? With the Gucci parana, it's easy to wipe off. Available at Neiman Marcus for $177 (reduced from $295).

For the unconventional dad who's not afraid to blend Alexander McQueen/Puma with retro. Made with washed leather upper, indulgence with a bit of casual luxury never hurt anyone. The three straps give the petrified spine respite from the dreaded bend-over-and-tie-the-laces backpain. Available at Eluxury for $235 (reduced from $330).

It's easy to individualize an outfit with a silk neck scarf. Solid color isn't what you expect from Roberto Cavalli, and you probably shouldn't expect this scarf to engender a fashion revival for your dad. Still, it's an accessory that might come in handy...at some point...hopefully. Available at Eluxury for $129 (reduced from $215).

Proceed at your own risk and help him channel his inner Christina Aguilera with this leopard-print Martin Margiela belt. Available at Aloha Rag for $237 (reduced from $395).

A keyring is a last resort, but at least you didn't forget to get a gift. This Malo accessory is leather, if that allays at all the fact that you clearly didn't look hard enough for a thoughtful gift. Available at Yoox for $45 (reduced from $64).

Sale: Leather Gucci Belt.

Source: Bergdorf Goodman
When the guccissima leather first came out, I was told by a Gucci SA that it would never ever go on sale. I was naive back then and didn't realize he was probably just trying to get commission. I love the guccissima leather - it's nice and thick, and the feel of the leather is superb. I have the belt with the GG logo buckle, but I like the square buckle better because it makes you look more sharp. (The square buckle belt I got at the Gucci outlet is the same style but is made of pigskin. It also doesn't feel as nice, although the material is more resilient.) For $159 (reduced from $265), I definitely recommend this belt. If you get tired of it, you can get at least half the money back on eBay, assuming you keep it in good condition.

Thrifty Thursday: Donald J. Pliner Belt.

Source: Smart Bargains
I'm starting up Thrifty Thursday again after weeks of neglect. Strangely enough, I was watching Jerry Springer: Angry Women Smackdown when I suddenly remembered.
Here's a croc-embossed belt from Donald J. Pliner - in case you are headed to San Antonio...or are under the erroneous impression that a buckle with a giant cattle skull is OK to wear outside of the Lone Star State.
Donald J. Pliner belt available at Smart Bargains for $31.98 (retail $192.95).

Dsquared Belt.

Source: Bergdorf Goodman
What a fun belt Dean and Dan have designed! The whale is just having a blast on the red enamel buckle, and the woven white rope is signaling for the weather to warm up in Ithaca. It's been sunny for the past few days, but it's still cold!
Available at Bergdorf Goodman for $155.

Logoed Dolce & Gabbana Belt I Can Stand.

Source: Neiman Marcus
The Dolce & Gabbana DG logo is more of a gimmick than, let's say, oh I don't know, the Chanel interlocking C's. At least with the C's, there was an iota of creative thought behind the logo. I mean really, who the hell thinks to put two C's side-by-side with one facing the opposite direction? But the DG? It's just plain and ugly. I'm expecting more from a duo that can somehow make leopard-print look sexy.
That's why I wasn't immediately repulsed by the belt (below). The knotted detail is something novel, something new, and something not so fork-over-your-money-because-it's-designer. It's almost as if the letters are part of the hardware motif. I actually kind of like it.
But guess what? I'm waiting for the first markdown. I can wait.
Available at Neiman Marcus for $325.

Spring...Soon.

Source: Bluefly
Despite the cold, I am reminded that spring is just around the corner. (Actually yesterday was fairly warm at 39 degrees.) People will be off to exotic places for spring break, but I'll be slaving away writing an honors thesis on cysteine metabolism and intracellular regulation. The problem is my experiments haven't been going too well, but I still have to concoct some sort of reasonable hypothesis. Blah.
Does this belt not make you want to go off to an Aruban resort and bask in the sunny goodness?
Available at Bluefly for $200.

Blast From The Past: Pink Belt.

Source: Fotografi Associati
Jil Sander S/S 2005. This photo with the pink belt reminds me of someone I met my sophomore year in college (which was 2005). He's probably one of the gayest people I know, except he has entered the professional world of human resources and has to tone down the clothing. The first time I saw him was at a RuPaul concert here on campus, and he was wearing a leopard-print Dolce & Gabbana shirt. The first time I went to a Jil Sander boutique was with him (E.rik L.airs). All I remember is the white elevator and the pink belt, which he bought after he got a job at XXXX. For the duration of the season, he practically wore that belt every day. He also pretty much introduced me to the gay scene at school, and I'm almost certain he got me hooked on Prada as well.
I'll probably be seeing more of him since he lives/works 10 minutes away from where I'll be starting graduate school next fall. I hope he kept that pink belt for old times sake.
