I'm trying to be more open-minded about backpacks, but I still think they belong in classrooms and not in the real world. However, the goat leather is very soft and probably can't handle the weight of heavy textbooks and binders without stretching in odd places.

Maybe a Theater & Dance major at Amherst (or some other snooty liberal arts college) might appreciate this. I'm sure the delicate bag can manage costumes from the Elizabethan era and perhaps tap shoes.

Can someone explain to me why this costs $2950? It has sterling silver hardware. Big deal. Silver is like, what, $14 per ounce? I suppose if you're Mayan, that symbol would have some meaning, but how many Mayans in the world can afford to pay $2950 for a backpack? You can get a leather Tod's (although it'd be more generic-looking) for half the price.

I wasn't a fan of this Alexander McQueen/Samsonite luggage, and I'm not a fan of this either. The above Samsonite Tartaruga backpack designed by Joris Smeuninx reminds me of a bug with the exterior looking like exoskeleton of an exotic grotesque flying insect. And I hate insects. If you look under my kitchen cabinet, I have all different sorts of Raid for the variegated species of bugs that must be eradicated.

OK, so the material is actually carbon fiber and not chitin, but it still looks gross.

With so many pockets on that bag, how are you supposed to remember which one you put your cell phone in? By the time you figure that out, a talent in and of itself, the person calling you would have hung up. I hate when that happens because it could have been the Publishers Clearing House telling me to expect a surprise visit.

This backpack is ugly and impractical. And it can cost you a sweepstake.

Missoni Fall 2007. The only thing that pops up in my head when I see this bag is backpacking across the Andes and taking scenic shots of Machu Picchu. I'm pretty sure Andean art looks nothing like that, and I'm basing the similarity only on my vague recollection of 7th grade world history class.
