John Varvatos Black Leather Briefcase.

Hmmm...I just feel like they could have done something a little more with the slots, perhaps not as extravagantly as this croc-trimmed carryall but with at least some sort of distinguishing mark. Much like Britney's stint in rehab and Live 8, the good idea was not taken far enough to result in anything.

John Varvatos And His Bag.

Good for him...he's wearing his own bag...

That's all I'm going to say about this. He designed it -- he can wear it however he wants.

Shoes Bag Sweaters - Ermenegildo Zegna, John Varvatos, Alexander McQueen, Prada Sport.

Ermenegildo Zegna shoes Alexander McQueen cashmere sweater John Varvatos carryall

The sales aren't quite as steep yet, but I found a few items you might be interested in.

The dress sneaker will slowly oxidize over time, in case the color seems too light. I didn't like the carryall when I first saw it, but the rings are growing on me. Cashmere and mink sweater - if you have the money, why not indulge yourself? The crane embroidery around the V neck is symmetric, methodically placed, and not overdone - beautiful!

Ermenegildo Zegna dress sneaker - $221 (Reduced from $395)

Ermenegildo Zegna cashmere/mink sweater - $3034 (Reduced from $4495)

John Varvatos leather carryall - $801 (Reduced from $1195)

Alexander McQueen cashmere sweater - $686 (Reduced from $1225)

Prada Sport Linea Rossa ombre sneaker

Will you partake in the Prada ombre patent leather trend this late in the game?

I think the fad is too transient and many others will agree, but there's one rule above all else: if you like it, buy it. Ultimately, you're putting down the dough for your own satisfaction, not others.

Great bag if you're a pack mule. Like the literal animal.

John Varvatos Croc-Print Carryall.

From far away, this John Varvatos bag looks like it could be made from real crocodile skin. I don't know what's going on with all those rings, but it may just be that I'm tired and delirious from eating just a bowl of salad all day and listening to over two hours of research presentations on biomembranes, c-src independent breast cancer, and something about DNA repair in E. coli. I try to pay attention during these talks, but most research topics are boring.

I have an Etro croc-print carryall that looks nothing like crocodile skin. I regret buying it, even though I got it on sale. At least with this John Varvatos one, the distressed leather makes the bag look nice, despite the fact that it's not real crocodile skin.

Available at BergdorfGoodman.com for $995.

CD-RW.

I normally don't like creme/peach/flesh/ivory colored bags, but what the heck, it's on sale. A light-colored bag sucks only if you plan on keeping it spotless. However, if you don't mind dirt, scratches, and other marks of use, then I suppose it's ok. Drag this John Varvatos tote across the floor, take it on your next camping trip, and toss it in the back of the trunk. The more you use and abuse it, the less you'll care about the outside appearance. Like I always say, as long as you don't pay retail, there's no need to keep it tidy.

Available at Saks Fifth Avenue for $312.95 (reduced from $895).

To The Nations.

If you ever wanted a python leather bag but couldn't find/afford one, here's a nice alternative - John Varvatos python embossed travel bag. I generally don't like buckles, especially those with no actual purpose, but they don't look too busy here. It's also on sale (40% off) for $597 at Bluefly.
